Radja Nainggolan, 34, was once a top European midfielder for club and country.

The Belgian made his name with stunning performances for Cagliari and Roma.

And he went on to win the Italian league with Inter Milan in 2021.

Nainggolan, who also had a second loan spell at Cagliari, then returned to his homeland with Antwerp.

But he ended up leaving in December following a series of controversies.

Nainggolan first lost his licence for drink-driving and speeding, just ONE week into his Antwerp career.

And in October he was suspended indefinitely for smoking an e-cigarette on the bench.

He ended up being forced to work with the youth team before leaving by mutual consent.

Nainggolan has now lashed out at Antwerp by sensationally claiming he was treated like a “piece of s***” after falling out with club president Paul Gheysens.

And after joining Italian minnows SPAL in January, he claims he is now happier playing for “peanuts.”

Nainggolan told the Antwerp Gazette via Marca: “In Antwerp they treated me like a parasite, like I was a piece of s***.

“They took Marc Overmars as sporting director to try to get me back into the main team, but nobody dared to go against the president.

“I did my best in the B team, I supported the youngest… I have been in many clubs and they have never treated me like this, I could not even enter through the main door of the training centre.

“My daughters were the main reason I returned to Belgium. Otherwise I could only be with them on vacation and I wanted to stay in Antwerp.

“Even losing a lot of money, as was the case, but that was not a problem.

“But the president even forced me to leave the country and I will never forgive him. In SPAL I play in exchange for ‘peanuts’ but with pleasure, I enjoy…”.

Speaking at the time of Nainggolan’s release, Antwerp chief Gheysens said: “He couldn’t play here anymore. That was impossible in this group.

“That doesn’t mean we’re going to break up in a fight. We settled everything amicably.

“You have players like Modric who are still fit at the age of 36 and you have players who are no longer doing well at the age of 30. Radja is among them.

“I think his story is written, despite his talent. Disciplinary he is no longer able to live as a top athlete.”
