World Cup legends’ sons face off against each other in star-studded youth clash

THE sons of two World Cup legends faced off against each other as Feyenoord took on Real Madrid in an Under-19s tournament.

As the Dutch outfit lined up to take on the Spanish giants it was hard to ignore two huge names taking part in the game.

Shaqueel van Persie , 16, and Elyaz Fernandez Zidane, 17, faced off against one another.

Like their famous fathers Robin van Persie and Zinedine Zidane they are trying to forge a career in the game.

Shaqueel is following in his fathers footsteps as a striker while Elyaz plies his trade as a defender.

Feyenoord suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Spanish side and exited the tournament having failed to progress to the next stage while Shaqueel went close to scoring with a header.

It remains to be seen if the pair will emulate their fathers in having a successful career.

Van Persie started and finished his career with the Rotterdam side whilst Zidane was a legend as a player and manager at Real Madrid.

The Frenchman has four sons who all play football while the Dutchman Van Persie’s son is highly regarded in Holland.

Enzo Zidane, 27 and Luca Zidane, 24 are goalkeepers while Theo Zidane, 20 is a midfielder.

The fifth edition of The Mohammed VI Football Academy’s U19 International Tournament started on February 21 and finishes on February 24.

The tournament features 12 teams from around the world including Real Madrid, Rangers, Lyon and Feyenoord.
