MANCHESTER UNITED appear to have only just noticed the “gnarly” scar on “warrior” Luke Shaw’s leg from his horror double leg break.

The 27-year-old full-back, who helped United to a 3-0 win over Leicester yesterday, moved to Old Trafford from Southampton back in 2014.

However, the following year he almost lost his leg following a challenge from PSV Eindhoven’s Hector Moreno during a Champions League group match.

Shaw received oxygen on the pitch before he was taken to the St Anna Ziekenhuis hospital in Geldrop for surgery.

United were contemplating flying the ace back to England to start his rehab, but doctors discovered two blood clots on the limb and he was forced to undergo another emergency operation following the double fracture.

Fortunately for the defender he is now back on top form for club and country, but after photos emerged from his latest outings, supporters were taken aback by the huge scars on his right leg.

After a snap of him joining in a goal celebration was shared online showing off his war wound, one fan labelled him a “warrior”.

Another wrote: “Truly crazy when you see this picture and the fact Luke Shaw has bounced back from double leg break. What a player!”

A fellow fan commented: “A warrior of the game. He has to win titles after all these.”

As another wrote: “He went into a game and suddenly quick as a flash it all went horribly wrong.

“Everyone sure his career was over, everyone saying he’ll never return and if he does he’ll be slow, useless and short lived.

“LOOK AT HIM NOW!!! OUR BOY! SHAW-BERTO! Legend.”

Speaking about his horrific ordeal previously, Shaw said: “I was really close to losing my leg but I didn’t know that until six months later when the doctor told me.

“At the time they were thinking about flying me back. But if I’d flown back, I would probably have lost my leg because of the blood clots.

“I’ve got two scars down the side of my leg where they had to cut me open and pull them out. I only found out six months later.

“I had a lot of complications with my leg but I feel really strong now and my right leg is as good as it was before my leg break.”
