Motherwell job latest as two-way fight emerges between Ian Holloway and English rival – and appointment could come TODAY
IAN HOLLOWAY and Grant McCann are in a battle to be Motherwell boss — after Jack Ross pulled out of the race.
SunSport broke the news that the former St Mirren, Hibs and Dundee United gaffer was on Well’s three-man shortlist to replace sacked Stevie Hammell.

But Ross last night informed Fir Park chiefs the job is NOT for him.
Well-travelled cult figure Holloway and ex-Hull City boss McCann remain in the running.
Caretaker boss Stuart Kettlewell hasn’t been discounted after leading Well to a 2-1 win over St Mirren on Wednesday.
Ross, 46, held informal talks earlier this week but has had second thoughts on his next career move.
Chairman Jim McMahon may make a decision today, however, after talks with the other contenders.
Holloway, 59, drove north to make a final pitch to the Well board. McCann also held fresh talks with Fir Park chiefs.
Holloway — out of work since leaving Grimsby in 2020 — has impressed Motherwell with a 27-year CV bossing the likes of QPR, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Blackpool.
Former Northern Ireland star McCann has picked up experience in the EFL in recent years, with stints at Peterborough, Doncaster Rovers and Hull City, where he won League One in 2021 after getting them relegated the previous year.
The 42-year-old’s second spell with Posh only ended last month with his side still in League One play-off contention — but he is keen to get back into the game quickly.
Well have spent all week in talks after sacking Hammell just hours after their Scottish Cup loss to Raith Rovers.
McMahon, leading the hunt with CEO Alan Burrows departing for Aberdeen, is hopeful the new man will oversee Sunday’s home match with Hearts.
