Chris Wilder OUT of Aberdeen job running as favourite decides Pittodrie move not for him

CHRIS WILDER is OUT of the running to be next Aberdeen manager.

The ex-Sheffield United boss has been the bookies’ favourite to replace sacked Jim Goodwin at Pittodrie.

But SunSport understands Wilder, 55, has now decided the job is NOT for him.

The Dons had a discussion with the one-time LMA Manager of the Year’s agent last week.

But it’s believed out-of-work Wilder is now looking at alternative options to return to football.

The news will come as a major disappointment to Reds fans who were hoping he would be their next managerial appointment.

It would have been a major coup to land hugely experienced Wilder.

The former Blades boss was seriously interested in taking charge at Pittodrie and being given a budget to have a go at taking on the Old Firm.

But Wilder has now taken himself out of contention.

Dons chairman Dave Cormack – now back in the States – is under real pressure to deliver a new manager before the club’s next game against Celtic in Glasgow on February 18.

The Pittodrie side are sitting in seventh spot in the Premiership with just two wins in their last 12 matches.

The faced a humiliating Scottish Cup exit to Darvel and lost 5-0 and 6-0 to Hearts and Hibs.

Ex-Scotland star Barry Robson is currently in temporary charge and could now become a real candidate to replace axed Goodwin.

He led the team to a vital home victory over Motherwell at Pittodrie on Saturday.

Former Poland national team boss Czeslaw Michniewicz has applied for the role.

While ex-Portsmouth gaffer Danny Cowley is also in the running.

Ex-Hibs boss John Hughes and Dwight Yorke have also thrown their hat into the ring.
