Non-league footballer Alex Fletcher, 23, in ‘stable but critical condition’ after surgery for severe head injury
BATH CITY striker Alex Fletcher is in intensive care with a severe head injury after colliding with an advertising board last night, the National League South side have confirmed.
Fletcher suffered the injury five minutes into his side’s match against Dulwich Hamlet at Twerton Park.

The match was subsequently abandoned after Fletcher was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
Bath City have this morning shared a statement from the 23-year-old’s parents.
It read: “Unfortunately Alex has sustained a severe head injury as a result of last night’s events.
“He required immediate neurosurgery to stabilise his condition and was then admitted to intensive care where he remains in a stable but critical condition.

“Alex’s family would like to thank everyone for their best wishes that have been sent.”
Players left the field of play within a few minutes of Fletcher’s injury, as the striker received urgent medical attention.
The decision was made to abandon the match 25 minutes later.
Bath City wrote last night: “This evening’s game has been abandoned and will be played at a later date.

“Everyone at the club is deeply saddened by tonight’s events and it has been agreed that the game will not resume.
“Our best wishes and thoughts are with Alex Fletcher.”
Opponents Dulwich Hamlet added: “Due to the serious injury sustained by Alex Fletcher, both teams have agreed to abandon the game.
“For now the most important thing is the safety and recovery of Alex, and from everyone connected with Dulwich, we wish him a speedy and full recovery.”
Fletcher started his career with Plymouth Argyle, making 24 appearances for the Pilgrims between 2016 and 2020.
During this spell he went on loan stints with Torquay United, Aldershot Town and Tiverton Town.
He moved permanently to Tiverton in 2020, transferring to Bath a year later.
Fletcher has played 54 times for his current side, scoring 22 goals.
He has received warm wishes from around the football community.
The Devon Football Association wrote: “Our thoughts are with former Plymouth Argyle player, Alex Fletcher following this evening’s incident.
“Wishing him a full & speedy recovery.”
While a host of non-league sides have sent positive messages Fletcher’s way.
Premier League Southampton tweeted: “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Alex. Our thoughts are with you and your family.”
