Colorado Rapids extend Lalas Abubakar contract to 2024
Colorado Rapids have handed Ghanaian defender Lalas Abubakar a four year contract extension with the option of a further year.The cub announced the re-signing of the defender on Wednesday after he was included in next season’s roaster.Were delighted to secure Lalas future in Burgundy, said Padraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive VP & General Manager. Lalas has been an integral part of our defense during his two seasons with the club and we look forward to seeing him anchor our backline for several years to come.The 25-year-old has started 40 games for Colorado since joining the team during the 2019 season, including Colorados first-round match in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.Abubakar scored one goal for the Rapids in 2020 while posting the second-most blocks in MLS. Abubakar was named the clubs Defender of the Year in each of his two seasons with the Rapids.He started his MLS career with Columbus Crew SC in 2017, scoring two goals while making 31 regular season appearances and four in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
