Newcastle line up Santiago Hezze transfer as Argentina star impresses at Olympic Games

NEWCASTLE are reportedly lining up a move for Olympiacos star Santiago Hezze following his impressive performances for Argentina at the Olympic Games.

Hezze, 22, is a defensive midfielder who is the nephew of four-time Argentina international Antonio Mohamed.

After playing 124 times for boyhood club Huracan, Hezze joined Greek giants Olympiacos last summer and led them to Europa Conference League glory with 50 appearances in all competitions.

The youngster was then called up by Argentina for their Olympics adventure in Paris, with Hezze starting their first two group games and coming off the bench in the third.

He was also a sub in the quarter-final defeat to France.

And Hezze’s impressive rise has now caught the eye of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

TyC Sports claims Toon want a midfield reinforcement before next week’s transfer deadline.

And they are currently preparing an offer for Hezze that could see him become the latest signing at St James’ Park.

Newcastle have had a relatively quiet window by their recent standards, completing free moves for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly and Birmingham goalie John Ruddy.

Howe has also signed Nottingham Forest stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos and Sheffield United striker William Osula while making Lewis Hall’s loan from Chelsea permanent.

But he hopes to make one more big defensive signing in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Newcastle have already had four bids turned down for the England centre-back.

It’s seen them make enquiries for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

However, Newcastle could yet return with a fifth offer for Guehi, who is keen on moving to the north east.
