Olympic event POSTPONED due to lack of wind as competitors head out on the water before being called back at Paris 2024

A LACK of wind in Marseilles meant a false start to the sailing regatta.

With a gentle breeze struggling to make three knots, all the IQFoil windsurfing races were postponed, frustrating GB’s Sam Sills and Emma Wilson.

Both Wilson, bronze medal winner in the previous RSX class in Tokyo, and Sills did leave the harbour to get out onto the water, but that was as far as it went.

Competitors need to “pump” their craft by an in and out action to get the board out of the water and use the carbon foil.

But with insufficient wind for any of the sailors to get their boats into racing order, the two fleets were summoned back to land after a couple of hours.

When the wind did not pick up by mid-afternoon, all scheduled races for the day were put back 24 hours.

However it didn’t bring an end to all the events in the water.

The two 49er and 49er FX skiff sailing crews were still able to get out and compete.

But low wind made things a struggle for those competing with GB’s Freya Black and Saskia Tidey sitting 10th overall after three races and a best finish of eighth when the gusts started to register in the late afternoon.

In the men’s class, Britsh duo James Peters and Fynn Sterrett lie 14th and outside the top 10 medal race positions after finishing 18th, 11th and then 13th in their three races.
