Arsenal 2 Brentford 1: Kai Havertz comes to Aaron Ramsdale’s rescue with late goal after keeper’s horror error

KAI HAVERTZ’S brilliant late winner put Arsenal top and rescued blunder keeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Declan Rice’s thumping header was cancelled out by Ramsdale gifting Yoane Wissa an equaliser – before Havertz nodded home following a superb move.

Rice’s 19th-minue breakthrough rewarded the Gunners’ superiority.

But all their composure and dominance was undone by a dreadful misjudgement from recalled keeper Ramsdale deep in first-half stoppage time.

The England stopper was too casual with a backpass and an attempted clearance on his second touch cannoned in off Brentford forward Wissa.

Predictably, Arsenal swarmed all over the Bees after that, especially in the closing stages, as they sought the win needed to leapfrog Man City and leaders Liverpool to reach the Prem summit.

And eventually a silky move – led by Martin Odegaard and Ben White – peaked with Havertz heading home from the centre of the penalty area.

It was the German’s fourth goal in four games – and his ninth this term.
