The TNT Sports pundit last week claimed Saka is “not world class yet”, despite his impressive performances this season.

He was able to see the funny side as he headed to Portugal for Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Porto, though.

Ferdinand shared a clip of himself making the announcement to X, formerly Twitter, writing: “Interesting @Ryanair flight with the Arsenal fans this morning…

“@BukayoSaka87 is top levels… no doubt! And will become ‘world class’.”

Speaking over the tannoy in the video, he said: “Hello guys, I just want to say it’s been an absolute pleasure to have you Arsenal fans.

“I must say, Saka is a fantastic player, just not world class yet. He will be one day but just not yet.”

His announcement was met with laughter and further chanting from the Arsenal supporters on board.

Saka has scored 15 goals and provided 13 assists for Mikel Arteta’s side in 32 appearances across all competitions this season.

He will be hoping for more success against Porto on Wednesday in the Champions League.

The match is Arsenal’s first in the knockout stages of the competition since their 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in 2017.

Meanwhile, progression against the Portuguese side will see the Gunners into their first quarter-final since 2010.
