FABIO VIEIRA has been offered an “Arsenal escape route”, according to reports.

The midfielder, 23, signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2022 for £34million and was tipped to be an important player for the Gunners.

But he struggled to break into the Arsenal first-team last season, and has seen this one be plagued by injury.

The midfielder has made 46 appearances in total for Arsenal, with many of these coming from the bench during his two seasons at the club.

Groin surgery has kept him out of Arsenal’s first-team squad since November but he is nearing a return to first-team action.

But according to Football Transfers, that return could be for AS Monaco rather than Arsenal.

The French giants have reportedly enquired over taking Vieira on loan until the end of the season.

Monaco are currently 4th in Ligue 1, and two points off a Champions League place.

The Monegasque club see Vieira as the perfect creative midfielder to help them achieve Champions League qualification this season.

Vieira was linked with an exit to Marseille in November, but Mikel Arteta poured cold water on those reports at the time and said he was pleased with Vieira’s progress.

Arteta said: “Something has changed with Fabio, you notice with the crowd when he steps in he is different to how he was last year.

“He’s more mature, he’s more senior in the squad and his confidence in the squad is high so I’m really happy to have those options.”

Arsenal’s rejection of West Ham‘s loan offer for Emile Smith-Rowe could be an indication of Vieira’s future at Arsenal, however, suggesting that he may be above the Portuguese star in Arsenal’s pecking order.
