Roma on verge of appointing club legend as manager to replace Jose Mourinho after sacking Special One

ROMA seem to have already identified their new head coach after sacking Jose Mourinho.

The Italian giants are reportedly closing in on deal to bring club legend Daniele De Rossi in as the new boss.

Mourinho was dismissed by Roma on Tuesday after a dismal spell of form coupled will ill discipline on the touchline saw the Giallorossi sitting ninth in Serie A.

And with recent performances leading to booing from fans at the Stadio Olimpico, execs at Roma appear to be leaning on nostalgia to improve the mood in the Italian capital.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the club are sorting the final details for De Rossi to be appointed as the new head coach.

The deal is said to be valid until the end of the season with an option to extend his contract further should things work out.

De Rossi made over 600 appearances for Roma over an 18-year spell with the club.

His management history offers less experience with the former midfielder only taking charge of 17 matches as manager.

The 40-year-old was the boss at Italian third division side SPAL, but was sacked after achieving just THREE wins in his time as gaffer.

However he achieved success prior to his time with the Serie C outfit when he worked as an assistant coach for the Italian national team.

De Rossi was part of Roberto Mancini’s team that guided Italy to success at Euro 2020.

Elsewhere reports suggest former Chelsea bosses Antonio Conte and Graham Potter are also being considered for the role.
