Franz Beckenbauer death updates: Harry Kane leads tributes as World Cup legend passes away after battle with illness
THE world is mourning the sad death of World Cup winner and Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer.
Beckenbauer was twice named European Footballer of the Year and appeared 103 times for West Germany – and is one of only three people to win the World Cup as player and manager
The Bayern Munich legend has also lifted a European Cup Winners’ Cup and his death has sent shock waves around the sporting world.
Following Beckenbauer’s passing, Bayern and England star Harry Kane led tributes.
Taking to Instagram, Kane said, “In my time at the club so far it’s clear what he meant to Bayern and to football in this country.
“My thoughts are with his family and friends.”
