Ronaldo’s home country, Portugal, was defeated in a group qualifier game on Sunday evening by Serbia.

Naija News reports that Serbia won the game with a late winner from Fulham’s Mitrovic.

Portugal had an early lead after an opening goal from Renato Sanchez before Dusan Tadic scored an equalizer in the 33rd minute of the game.

The Serbians salvaged their home country with a winning goal after Aleksandar Mitrovic who came in from off the bench to net a 90th-minute goal.

The Sunday night comeback ensures Serbia takes the top spot with 20 points.

They have three more points than second-placed Portugal, who only needed a draw to finish on top on goal difference and qualify.

Instead, Ronaldo and his teammates will now head into the March playoffs with the other group-stage runners-up for a chance to reach Qatar 2022.
