The Gunners had been top on Christmas Day but then failed to regain their place at the top of the tree due to the defeat and Liverpool winning against Burnley.
However, Arteta incorrectly stated that Arsenal were top of the league in his interview.
Asked about potential January recruits, he told Prime Video: “What we need is to finish the actions better.
“The [players] have done it, they did it last year and we are where we are.
“We’re top of the league so that means that the team does a lot of good things.”
The interviewer then awkwardly pointed out that the Gunners were actually in second place.
The reporter said: “We’re halfway stage, second, how do you evaluate the first half [of the season]?”
After briefly staring blankly, Arteta then responded with a smirk and said: “We want to be better and want to be at the top and today we are obviously very very disappointed.”
