Paddy Power on course to break £1m donation barrier after stunning start to World Darts Championship
PADDY POWER are on course to donate £1million to Prostate Cancer UK.
The bookies have vowed to donate £1,000 for every 180 scored at the PDC World Darts Championship to Prostate Cancer UK.
A stunning start to the action at Alexandra Palace has seen the campaign smash past the £300,000 barrier in just a week.
After the opening seven days of the tournament, a whopping 320 maximums had been hit.
The figure means this year’s players are on course to break the previous record of 901, set just last year.
PDC stats have also shown that the number of 180s is up by 30 over the first 48 matches compared to the same stage a year ago.
Meanwhile, Prostate Cancer UK have revealed 60,000 men have completed their 30-second online risk checker during the event.
That is over five times the amount for the same period in 2022, when 11,437 men completed the online check.
A Paddy Power spokesperson explained: “We’re just seven days into the tournament and already it’s thrown out some major shocks.
“But the best surprise of all has been the levels of awareness THE BIG 180 campaign has driven thanks to the backing of all of the pro dart players who appear to be hell bent on making us pay the maximum price for every maximum scored.”
Paddy Power have made it 6/4 that the record will be smashed while Luke Humphries is the 11/4 favourite to score the highest number of 180s to take home the Ballon d’Art.
The second round at Ally Pally concludes on Saturday before a three-day break over Christmas.
Darts fans will then return to the crowd with the start of the third round on December 27.
